Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP)

Cyanomat® - a modern way to eliminate Cyanide

Keeping CN-limits by means of UV-oxidation without sodium hypochlorite!

The modern cyanide treatment was developed by a.c.k. aqua concept GmbH and is carried out in a multi-stage UV oxidation process.
On the one hand, the process was based on a completely newly developed UV reactor for UV oxidation and on the other hand on additional process steps that complement the UV process and exploit the elimination of cyanide. Over the years, a.c.k. aqua concept GmbH and from the 01.01.2013 on enviolet GmbH have implemented a multiplicity of successful projects for the removal of cyanide from process media and waste water. The protective rights continue to be maintained at the a.c.k. aqua concept GmbH.

Cyanide-containing effluents and cyanide concentrates from all applications (surface engineering, synthesis, etc.) with up to 150,000 mg/L CN- are completely oxidized and detoxified with this UV oxidation process.
The detoxification or degradation of cyanide occurs fully automatically, quickly and safely in UV oxidation reactors. In the case of disposal by means of UV-H2O2 no chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite) is used and therefore no AOX is produced.

Due to the novel process control in the extended UV process, all relevant limits of the respective legal requirements for free cyanide or total cyanide can be met.

UV oxidation for cyanide degradation - Examples of systems for treatment of small and large volumes

Treatment of groundwater, rinsing water and concentrates

Typical applications:
- Surface technology (treatment of rinsing waters and concentrates)
- Chemical industry
- Groundwater remediation

Theory:
See our chapter on Cyanide Oxidation Basics for more information on cyanide degradation using an AOP process, including information on:
- Chemistry of the reaction
- Advantages over a treatment with sodium hypochlorite
- Application examples

Publications, case studies and other references can be found in the section "Treatment of Chelate Wastewater in Plating and PCB-Industry" in our publication list.

Common objectives:
  - Cyanide degradation to comply with relevant limits
  - Cyanide degradation + ensuring reliable precipitation of dissolved heavy metals (usually in surface technology)

As part of the AOP process, COD and nitrite are also oxidized / eliminated (if present).

In order to best advise you in such applications based on a well-founded design basis, we offer individualized feasibility studies, which form the basis for our design of your system in this area.
