Successful process control for AOP plants

Feasibility Study

Successful process control starts long before delivering equipment!

Feasibility testing and development starts with the as-is analysis and problem mapping in the application laboratory. Here we compile the reasonable process steps based on our long experience in AOP (Advanced Oxidation Processes) and R&D work and work out the target parameters for the process. We look for applications that fit our AOP processes, such as combinations of UV/H2O2, UV/H2O2/Fe, UV/O3 and H2O2/O3, but also test alternative processes, such as evaporation, ozonation, membrane processes, precipitation and biology for their applicability. In this way, we ensure that the customer receives information on the most economical process. No AOP should be used where other processes would be advantageous. Where we recommend AOP, we can then justify this as the best process. In complex cases, the result is often a combination of AOP processes and, for example, biological processes.

With various laboratory, technical and pilot plant facilities (leased from a.c.k. aqua concept GmbH), we are able to tailor a process to suit our customers' needs.
Our goal: process reliability with transparent costs for the customer. For our standard applications normally no further investigations are necessary. Nevertheless, we also offer the full scope of process development: from 5...20L laboratory scale to full scale plant. We perform this feasibility study for a small nominal fee, which is well below our own costs, but high enough to ensure serious interest.
We will charge the nominal fee in case of a timely order.

We use the data obtained in the course of the feasibility study as a basis for the design of a suitable treatment plant, as well as for the definition of the associated chemical warranty. Therefore, the sample(s) should be as representative as possible for the medium to be treated in the end!

Contract development can be done as well, under commercial conditions. Here the customer gets design data as well.

How does a feasibility study proceed?

Our know-how enables your success!

Phase 1: Technical clarification of the framework data

  • Volume to be treated per time unit
  • Wastewater origin
  • Chemical composition (ingredients, matrix)
  • Known concentrations and parameters
  • Objective of the treatment

Due to our extensive experience, statements on the general applicability and the rough costs of our processes can usually already be made after clarification of the framework data.
If the first technical clarification offers an interesting perspective for the customer, the next step is the preparation of a representative sample for the feasibility study. The sampling is ideally done in close coordination with enviolet.

  • Instructions for a representative sample (File <<Sampling>>)
  • Shipment of the sample to Enviolet (File <<Packaging and Transport>>).

Phase 2: Feasibility study
The actual feasibility study takes place after the representative sample is received by enviolet and is divided into 3 stages:

  1. Microtesting: a series of tests in a volume of 0.1 - 0.5 mL under very defined conditions yield the "fingerprint" of the wastewater.
A search is then made for a comparable fingerprint in our database, which now contains several thousand data sets.
    (Data for internal use only)
  2. Minitesting: with the data from microtesting, a treatment concept is developed on a scale of approx. 500 mL.
    (Data for internal use only)
  3. Macrotesting: with usually 5 - 20 L a complete degradation test is run for simulation and verification of the data.
Final or intermediate samples can also be provided to the customer here for in-house evaluation.

Phase 3: Evaluation and up-scaling
The key data from Phase 2 is summarized in a customer report with OPEX and CAPEX.
If this data provides an interesting perspective, further steps are taken in consultation with the customer.
